Henderson County Chamber Celebrates 2026 Annual Blue Ridge Growth Awards

The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Blue Ridge Business Growth Awards on Monday, May 4th at Southern Appalachian Brewery. This was the kick-off event for Small Business Week in Henderson County, Presented by Blue Ridge Community College, First Citizens Bank, Horizon Heating & Air and Times-News.

Awards were presented by Amber Webb of First Citizens Bank (SBW Presenting Sponsor) and Tina Lance of Champion Credit Union (Presenting Sponsor). The Chamber hosts this event each year during National Small Business Week as a way to highlight the successes of our small business community. This year there were 14 Business Growth Award Recipients and 4 Rising Stars (start-up business in operation for less than 3 years). Along with Presenting Sponsors Champion Credit Union and WNC Business, additional support came from The Salty Landing and Southern Appalachian Brewery.

Boaty Alexander, Small Business Committee Chair and partner with Ecusta Wealth Management of Steward Partners, shared, "Last night’s Growth Awards highlighted what’s possible when local entrepreneurs are supported and celebrated. From businesses that have steadily expanded over many years to newer companies achieving rapid growth, each success story reflects the innovation, determination, and community spirit that make Henderson County a great place to do business."

Alessi Insurance

Founded over 40 years ago by Charlie Alessi, Alessi Insurance Services has become a trusted provider of individual and group insurance throughout Western North Carolina. In 2015, Mike Alessi took over ownership of Alessi Insurance Services. Under Mike’s leadership, the company has consistently demonstrated resilience, innovation, and a strong commitment to serving its clients. They provide clients with the knowledge that is necessary to choose the correct insurance tailored to their needs and lifestyle.

Over the past several years, Alessi Insurance Services has achieved steady and measurable growth. The company saw a 10% increase in 2022, followed by another 10% in 2023, and continued that momentum with an additional 5% growth in 2024. This sustained performance reflects both a solid business strategy and a deep understanding of the community it serves.

That growth extends beyond revenue. The company expanded its team from three full-time employees in 2024 to four in 2025, further strengthening its ability to meet client needs. In addition, Mike invested in the future of the business by purchasing and relocating to a new office space—an exciting milestone that positions the company for continued success.

 

Always Best Care

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company whose momentum speaks for itself—demonstrating exceptional growth, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to serving our community.

Always Best Care Senior Services, founded in 2010, is a locally owned and operated business that has become a trusted provider of senior care across five surrounding counties. Their mission-driven approach and dedication to excellence have made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless families in our region.
Their growth story is nothing short of remarkable. With an impressive 32% growth in 2022 followed by an outstanding 34% in 2023, Always Best Care continues to build on its success year after year. Alongside this growth, their team has expanded significantly—from 26 employees in 2023 to 34 in 2025—reflecting both increasing demand for their services and their commitment to building a strong, compassionate workforce.

But beyond the numbers, it’s their unwavering focus on quality care, trust, and community impact that truly sets them apart. They are not just growing—they are making a difference every single day.

Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company that proves growth isn’t just about numbers—it’s about resilience, commitment, and showing up for your community, even in the face of challenges.

Big Frog Custom T-Shirts, founded in 2015 by owner David Riddel, has become a trusted local business known for its creativity and personalized service. Through dedication and hands-on leadership, David has built a business that not only delivers high-quality custom products but also reflects the spirit and pride of the community it serves.

Their journey over the past few years tells a powerful story. After achieving a 5% increase in revenue in 2023, the business faced a setback in 2024 due to Hurricane Helene. But true to their spirit, they didn’t stay down—they came back stronger in 2025 with an impressive 17% increase in revenue. Along the way, their team grew from two employees in 2023 to three in 2024, maintaining a close-knit, dedicated staff committed to excellence.

And while their business growth is worth celebrating, what truly sets David and Big Frog apart is their unwavering commitment to this community. David has served as a Chamber Ambassador for 10 years, contributed four years as a Chamber Board member, and continues to give back through active involvement and sponsorship of Chamber events. His leadership and dedication extend far beyond his business.

Designing Spaces by Lyn

Our next Growth Award recipient is a standout entrepreneur who exemplifies talent, community involvement, and a keen eye for design that truly transforms spaces.
Founded in 2022 by Lyn Mabry, Designing Spaces by Lyn has quickly made its mark by bringing style, creativity, and vision to homes throughout our community. An Accredited Staging Professional, Lyn took a bold leap of faith when she sold her established business in Kentucky and relocated here less than four years ago—starting fresh with little more than her reputation and her website. That risk has proven to be a remarkable success.

Her company specializes in home staging, interior styling, and renovation planning, helping clients reimagine and elevate their spaces. That dedication and expertise are clearly reflected in her impressive growth: a 60% increase in 2022, over 50% growth in 2023, and an additional 23% increase in 2024.

Beyond her business achievements, Lyn is deeply engaged in the community. She is an active member of the Henderson County Chamber Leads East Group, along with several other social and professional organizations, continuing to build meaningful connections and expand her network.

 

Discover Hometown

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company that has built its success by helping others grow—creating connections, opportunities for visibility, and lasting impact across our region.

Discover Hometown Magazine, founded in May 2005 and owned by Annamarie Jakubielski, has become a powerful platform for local businesses to thrive. Through their direct mail publication, they have spent nearly two decades shining a spotlight on small businesses and strengthening the fabric of our local economy.

Their growth over the past few years has been nothing short of extraordinary. With steady increases of 5% in 2023 and 7% in 2024, they built a strong foundation—followed by an impressive 38% surge in 2025. Today, their magazine reaches more than 33,000 households each quarter, connecting businesses directly with the communities they serve.

And they’re not slowing down. With a recent expansion into South Asheville, Discover Hometown Magazine now reaches an additional 15,000 households every quarter—extending their impact and creating even more opportunities for local businesses to be seen and supported.

 

Flat Rock Cinema

It’s a pleasure to recognize our next Growth Award recipient - a business that has brought both creativity and resilience to our local economy.

Founded in 2007, Flat Rock Cinema has been an important part of the Flat Rock entertainment scene for nearly two decades. It offers something truly special to our community—a bistro-style movie experience where guests can enjoy meals, beverages, and films all in one place.

In 2023, the cinema entered an exciting new chapter when it was purchased by Bryan Byrd—known to many as “B Squared.” Bryan embraced the strong foundation built by the previous owner while introducing fresh, innovative programming. Today, Flat Rock Cinema is more than a movie theater—it’s a hub for community engagement, featuring comedy shows, musical performances, and a wide variety of events that support our local arts scene.

Bryan’s leadership has delivered meaningful results. Revenue has steadily increased over the past three years, with only a brief dip in 2025 due to the impact of Hurricane Helene on tourism. Looking ahead, projections for 2026 are strong, pointing to a full recovery and continued growth.

Importantly, that success has been reinvested back into the business. Upgrades such as a new sound system, ADA listening devices, and enhanced kitchen equipment have elevated the customer experience—with even more improvements, like a new popcorn machine, on the way.

 

Hajoca Hendersonville

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company with a legacy of excellence and a future defined by remarkable growth. With deep roots in both the industry and our local community, they continue to set the standard for reliability, service, and success.

Hajoca, founded in 1858, has built a long-standing reputation as a trusted wholesale distributor of plumbing, HVAC, and industrial supplies. Their presence in Hendersonville spans many years, and their commitment to supporting local contractors, builders, and businesses has made them an essential part of our community’s growth.

In recent years, their performance has been nothing short of exceptional. With growth of 16% in 2022, 27% in 2023, and an outstanding 38% in 2024, Hajoca has demonstrated consistent upward momentum. Alongside this success, their team has expanded from 16 employees in 2023 to 18 in 2024, and now to 20 employees in 2025—reflecting both increased demand and a strong investment in people.

In addition to their wholesale operations, their Hendersonville showroom offers customers a hands-on experience, showcasing quality products and expert guidance that further sets them apart.

 

Hendersonville/Mills River/Arden Family Dental

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company that has grown not only in size, but in reach, impact, and commitment to caring for our community.

Hendersonville, Mills River, Arden Family Dental began its journey in December 2011, when Dr. Stohl purchased what was then Hendersonville Family Dental and set out with a vision for expansion and excellence. What started as a single practice has since grown to serve patients across multiple locations in Hendersonville, Mills River, and Arden—with even more growth on the horizon.

Their continued success is reflected in both their numbers and their momentum. With revenue growth of 15% in 2022, 7.5% in 2023, and 6.3% in 2024, they have demonstrated steady and sustainable progress. At the same time, their team has expanded from 55 employees in 2023 to 60 in 2024, and now to 62 in 2025—building a strong network of professionals dedicated to exceptional patient care.

And they’re not slowing down. This summer, they will open a fourth location in Fletcher, further extending their ability to serve families throughout our region with high-quality dental care.

 

Inside Out

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company whose impact is measured not just in numbers, but in the lives it has helped shape through learning, experience, and connection.

Inside Out Inc., founded in 1994 and led by owner Monica Barrios, is an outdoor experiential education company dedicated to inspiring, motivating, and educating through hands-on learning. For more than 25 years, Inside Out has created customized programs designed to meet the unique needs of each group they serve—transforming experiences into lasting personal and professional growth.

In recent years, their journey has reflected both resilience and steady progress. Despite challenges from Hurricane Helene and lingering effects of COVID-19, the organization has continued to move forward with strength and purpose. Their team has grown from one full-time employee in 2023 to two full-time employees in 2025, demonstrating sustainable growth in a challenging environment.

Through it all, their mission has remained constant: to provide meaningful experiential learning that builds confidence, strengthens teams, and inspires growth in every participant they serve.

 

Noble Pest Solutions

Our next Growth Award recipient is no stranger to this stage—and for good reason. With a remarkable track record that includes both a Growth Award and a Rising Star Award, this company continues to raise the bar for success in Henderson County.

Noble Pest Solutions, founded in 2019 by Donnie and Kelly Noble, is a family-owned business built on passion, dedication, and a clear vision for excellence. Their commitment to fostering a strong workplace culture, delivering outstanding customer service, and staying deeply connected to the community has fueled their impressive and sustained growth.

And that growth is worth celebrating. With an average annual revenue increase of 10% and a growing team that has expanded from 17 to 19 employees, Noble Pest Solutions continues to thrive. Romeo, Harrelson, & Mullen

Our next Growth Award recipient is a firm with deep roots in our community and a renewed era of growth driven by strong leadership and continued commitment to service.

Romeo, Harrelson, and Mullen, P.A. was founded in 1951 and has built a long-standing reputation for trusted legal counsel and dedicated client service. Recently, the firm welcomed Justice Mullen as a partner, marking an important milestone in its continued evolution as his name was added to the firm’s title in recognition of his leadership and impact.

In recent years, the firm has experienced steady and meaningful growth. They expanded from 4 full-time employees in 2023 to 6 in 2024, and now to 7 in 2025. Financially, they achieved revenue growth of 10% in 2022, 15% in 2023, and 10% in 2024—reflecting consistent upward momentum and renewed energy within the practice.

Much of this growth can be attributed to Justice Mullen’s leadership and vision, which have played a significant role in expanding the firm’s reach and strengthening its client base. Beyond his work at the firm, he also serves on the Small Business Committee for the Henderson County Chamber, actively supporting the success and development of local businesses throughout the region.

 

Stuller Power Solutions

Our next Growth Award recipient is a company that not only powers homes and businesses—but also powers our community through leadership, service, and support.

Stuller Power Solutions, founded in 2000 by Brian and Cheryl Stuller, specializes in generator installation, sales, and comprehensive power services. For over two decades, they have built a reputation for reliability, expertise, and dependable service when it matters most.
Their recent growth reflects both strong demand and steady expansion. The company has grown its team from 19 employees in 2023 to 20 in 2024, and now to 21 in 2025. Financially, they achieved a 16% revenue increase in 2024, followed by an outstanding 60% growth in 2025—demonstrating significant momentum and continued success.

But what truly sets Stuller Power Solutions apart is their commitment beyond business. Brian and Cheryl Stuller are deeply involved in the community, supporting several local nonprofits including Safelight and actively participating in the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce. Cheryl also serves on multiple committees, including the Empower Her Committee, where she plays an active role in supporting and uplifting women throughout our region.

 

Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt

Our next Growth Award recipient is a business that has quickly become a joyful destination for families, visitors, and locals alike—built around simple moments of fun and connection.

Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt, located in downtown Hendersonville and owned by Kelly Buchanan, is a self-serve frozen yogurt and ice cream shop featuring a wide variety of toppings and treats. Since opening, their goal has been simple but powerful: to create a fun, welcoming place where families can come together and enjoy a sweet experience.

Their growth over the past few years reflects that success. With revenue increases of 15% in 2022, 10% in 2023, and 20% in 2024, Sweet Frog has continued to build momentum and strengthen its place in the community.

Beyond the numbers, their impact is seen in the smiles they bring to both residents and visitors who stop in for a treat and a memorable experience in the heart of downtown.

 

Whit’s

Since opening its doors in Hendersonville in 2015, Whit’s Frozen Custard has become a beloved local favorite, although, operating out of a difficult location on Spartanburg Highway. In 2020, new owners Ben and Lauren Jones took the helm and established a new permanent home on Kanuga Road. This strategic move has driven remarkable sales growth, thanks to their commitment to quality, a prime location, and thriving summer tourist traffic.

Their business is poised for continued success, with a promising outlook driven by their convenient proximity to the popular Ecusta Trail, attracting both locals and visitors alike.

An impressive three-year track record of growth:
• Over 8% growth in 2023
• An outstanding 23% increase in 2024
• Another strong 16% growth projected for 2025

The team at Whit’s includes owners Ben and Lauren, supported by a dedicated staff of approximately a dozen part-time employees. During the busy summer months, that number swells to more than 20, offering excellent seasonal job opportunities for local youth and supporting the community’s workforce.

Whit’s Frozen Custard has truly been “cutting the custard” when it comes to business excellence and growth.

 

RISING STARS

Arsenal Pest Management

Our next Rising Star Award recipient is a company that may be new to the scene, but has already made an extraordinary impact—demonstrating rapid growth, strong leadership, and a foundation built for long-term success.

Arsenal Pest Management, founded in 2024 and led by CEO Bryan Crisp, is a pest management company committed to delivering high-quality service with integrity, value, and care. In just a short time, they have established themselves as a trusted provider, offering services ranging from pest and termite control to moisture solutions, mosquito treatments, and liquid lawn care.

Their growth in their first year has been nothing short of remarkable. Expanding from 2 employees in 2024 to 3 full-time employees in 2025, they have paired team growth with an incredible 246% increase in revenue—an achievement that speaks volumes about both demand for their services and the strength of their business model.

But what truly sets Arsenal Pest Management apart is the foundation they’ve built from day one—centered on integrity, service, and value. These principles are evident in every interaction and have played a key role in their rapid rise.

 

Boodas Brewing

Our next Rising Star Award recipient is a business that has quickly become more than just a place to visit—it’s become a place to belong.

Boodas Brewing Company, founded in 2023 by owner Jeff Hughes, has made an immediate impact by creating a welcoming space where community comes first. From day one, their focus has been clear: treat every customer like family and provide a place where everyone feels at home.
In their first year, they experienced strong initial growth, followed by an impressive 30% revenue increase in 2024—proof that their approach is resonating with the community. With a dedicated team of three full-time employees, they have built a consistent and reliable operation that prioritizes both quality and connection.

Boodas Brewing Company has set itself apart by focusing on what matters most—being a true gathering place. Whether it’s sharing a meal, enjoying a great beer, or simply spending time together, they’ve created an environment that brings people together and keeps them coming back.

 

Home2 Suites

Our next Rising Star Award recipient is a business that turned an unexpected challenge into an opportunity to serve—demonstrating resilience, leadership, and an immediate commitment to community.

Home2 Suites, which opened in 2024, faced a remarkable start. Originally scheduled to open the very day Hurricane Helene impacted Hendersonville, the team quickly pivoted—delaying their opening by just one week and stepping up to support housing relief efforts for those in need.

Under the leadership of General Manager Justin Moody, the hotel has not only launched successfully but has already experienced significant growth in its first two years. Today, their team includes 18 full-time and 12 part-time employees, reflecting both strong demand and a commitment to delivering excellent service.

Justin’s impact extends far beyond the business. As an active member of the Henderson County Chamber, he serves on multiple committees and as Co-Chair of the Ambassadors, playing a key role in supporting and connecting local businesses throughout the community.

From day one, Home2 Suites has been more than just a place to stay—it has been a place of support, service, and connection.

 

Ryno Rental

Our next Rising Star Award recipient is a business that has made an incredible impact in a very short time—demonstrating rapid growth, entrepreneurial drive, and a deep commitment to serving the community.
Ryno Rental, founded in 2024 by owner Ryan Maxwell, is a roll-off dumpster rental and junk removal company that has quickly built a reputation for reliability, responsiveness, and outstanding service.

In just its first year, the company has experienced extraordinary growth. From starting with no employees in 2024 to adding both a full-time and part-time team member in 2025, Ryno Rental has expanded to meet increasing demand. That demand is clear—serving 267 customers across 555 transactions, while growing their fleet from 16 to 22 containers by April. Even more impressive, they achieved a remarkable 300% increase in revenue from 2024 to 2025.

But their success goes far beyond the numbers. Community involvement has been a core part of their mission from the very beginning. In early 2025, they played an important role in ongoing Hurricane Helene cleanup efforts, helping local residents recover and rebuild. They also partnered with Flat Rock Cinema and Rule Your World Marketing for the 2025 “Fill the Container” Food Drive, collecting 344 pounds of collecting 344 pounds of food to support local families in need.

Ryno Rental’s story is a powerful example of what can happen when hard work, vision, and community focus come together. In a very short time, they’ve not only built a thriving business but also made a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve.
