Education Committee Meeting (8:00 AM - 9:00 AM)

Education Committee Meeting, 8:00 am at the Chamber.

Mission: To ensure that the current workforce and citizens entering the workforce have the skills (or opportunities to gain the skills) to meet the employment needs in Henderson County.

Goals:

  • Improve the skill sets of students graduating or otherwise leaving the K-12 system and entering the workforce.

  • Improve training/educational opportunities for the current workforce and un/underemployed that improve opportunities for advancement.

  • Support school administrators, teachers, students and parents who are involved in the educational process.

  • Determine higher education needs in Henderson County and support increasing higher education capacity.

Mission: To communicate news and present a positive image of The Chamber to the membership, general business community and public.

Goals:

  • Produce high quality products that communicate the Chamber's message.

  • Use current and future media outlets to convey the Chamber's message in an organized, effective manner.

  • Improve relationships with media outlets and advocate more positive business related stories.

  • Improve image of the Chamber and "business community" in the eyes of the general public.

The Chamber Board of Directors will meet in the Duke Energy Boardroom/First Citizens Bank Multi-Purpose room beginning at 12:15 pm.

Ambassadors Committee Meeting (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)

The Chamber's Ambassadors Committe will meet at the Chamber headquarters, 204 Kanuga Road.

Mission: To act as the customer service arm of The Chamber and to organize networking activities and special events, as well as encourage existing and new member involvement.
Goals:

* Increase retention by involving new and existing members (90%).
* Offer numerous networking opportunities throughout the year.
* Help members celebrate successes and assist start-up businesses with publicity.
* Welcome new members to The Chamber and educate them regarding the benefits of membership.

Action Steps:

* Coordinate monthly Business After Hours events for the membership.
* Coordinate "greeters" for Business After Hours events.
* Coordinate two "ice breaker" activities at selected Business After Hours events.
* Initiate personal contact with all new members within one month of join date.
* Coordinate a minimum of four Power Networking events in 2010.
* Coordinate and attend ribbon cutting events and other special events for members.
* Organize and conduct 3 to 4 Chamber 101 events for new and existing members.
* Recognize the Ambassador of the Quarter and Ambassador of the Year.
* Coordinate Quarterly AM Power Hours networking meetings in 2010.
* Coordinate 3 Chamber Surprise Patrol events in 2010.
* Investigate the feasibility of offering auction items at Business After Hours events.
* Create a specific plan for "touching" members during the year.
* Explore feasibility of "Raving Dave" Good News Sessions.

2012 Frostbite 5K, 10K, And 1-Mile Fun Run/Mile (1:15 PM)
Event Date & Race Start Times:

Sunday, February 19th, with registration begins at 1:15 p.m. at Leila Patterson Center.

1 Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 2:15 p.m., 5K and 10K Runs start at 2:30 p.m.

Registration:

Interested runners may register at Park Ridge HealthActive or by calling 828-681-2421.

Entry Fee:

Registration for the 10k race is $25 and for the 5K race is $20 before February 10th. Entry fees for either race will be $35 after this date or on race day. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is $10.

Economic Outlook Breakfast (7:30 AM - 9:00 AM)
On February 22nd, 2012 the Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Economic Outlook Breakfast at Highland Lake Inn, 86 Lily Pad Lane, Flat Rock. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am. The program, sponsored by Asheville Savings Bank, will begin at 8:00 am.

Cost to attend the breakfast is $15 per person for Chamber members, $25 per person for non-members. Tables of 8 may be reserved for $100. Please RSVP to the Chamber, 828.692.1413, by Friday, February 17th. Payment in advance is requested.
