Education Committee Meeting, 8:00 am at the Chamber.
Mission: To ensure that the current workforce and citizens entering the workforce have the skills (or opportunities to gain the skills) to meet the employment needs in Henderson County.
Goals:

Improve the skill sets of students graduating or otherwise leaving the K-12 system and entering the workforce.

Improve training/educational opportunities for the current workforce and un/underemployed that improve opportunities for advancement.

Support school administrators, teachers, students and parents who are involved in the educational process.

Determine higher education needs in Henderson County and support increasing higher education capacity.

Technology is on a fast track these days. New products come and go in between the seasons. This workshop will provide an overview demonstration of tech tools that are free, easy to use and will help you in your small business in 4 main areas:
1) Get Found - how to create free and easy to use websites
2) Get Organized - learn about tech tools that help you streamline, organize and manage your business from phone calls, to email, to calendars, to accounting, to cloud computing and storage
3) Get Business - how to market your business, advertise for cheap, overview of social media
4) Get Paid - Paypal, Google Checkout and Mobile Credit Card Readers

Ambassadors Committee Meeting (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
The Chamber's Ambassadors Committe will meet at the Chamber headquarters, 204 Kanuga Road.
Mission: To act as the customer service arm of The Chamber and to organize networking activities and special events, as well as encourage existing and new member involvement. Goals:
* Increase retention by involving new and existing members (90%). * Offer numerous networking opportunities throughout the year. * Help members celebrate successes and assist start-up businesses with publicity. * Welcome new members to The Chamber and educate them regarding the benefits of membership.
Action Steps:
* Coordinate monthly Business After Hours events for the membership. * Coordinate "greeters" for Business After Hours events. * Coordinate two "ice breaker" activities at selected Business After Hours events. * Initiate personal contact with all new members within one month of join date. * Coordinate a minimum of four Power Networking events in 2010. * Coordinate and attend ribbon cutting events and other special events for members. * Organize and conduct 3 to 4 Chamber 101 events for new and existing members. * Recognize the Ambassador of the Quarter and Ambassador of the Year. * Coordinate Quarterly AM Power Hours networking meetings in 2010. * Coordinate 3 Chamber Surprise Patrol events in 2010. * Investigate the feasibility of offering auction items at Business After Hours events. * Create a specific plan for "touching" members during the year. * Explore feasibility of "Raving Dave" Good News Sessions.

Join us in celebrating the winners of the inaugural Blue Ridge Business Growth Awards at this reception to be held in Southern Appalachian Craft Brewery from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.
Blue Ridge Business Growth Awards are presented to Henderson County Chamber of Commerce member businesses that have experienced business success in 2011 and have helped grow our local economy. Through quality management, inventiveness, old fashioned hard work and courage – they have managed to grow their business during tough economic times. The awards are used to recognize these companies for employment growth, revenue growth and/or a combination of the two.

Business And Professional Women's Luncheon (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
Join us for this Small Business Week in Henderson County event at Kenmure Country Club from 11:30 - 1 pm on Thursday, May 24th, 2012. Cost to attend is $30 per person or $250 for a reserved table of 8.
The speaker is Meridith Elliott Powell. Meridith began her career in sales and marketing, grew into finance and commercial banking, and is now a gifted and award-winning business person. She learned firsthand how finances, planning, sales and people development must all work together for companies to reach new heights. She has the skills and the knowledge to bring the numbers side and people side together, to align goals and move your company to profitability. Meridith’s signature style and her ability to rapidly connect with people make her a sought after speaker, trainer and coach. She is an active member of the National Speakers Association, the Carolinas Speakers Association, the American Society of Training and Development, and Lessons In Leadership. She is gold master certified in Strategic Planning by the Haines Centre, and the University of San Diego. Having completed master level courses and exams, Meridith is among a handful of strategists to hold this certification. A master certified Human Behavior Specialist, Meridith chose to increase her knowledge of communication styles, human behaviors and their impact on professional relationships and organizational development. Her certification permits her to work as an instructor, coach and specialist in these areas. Having completed her certification as a business coach, Meridith pursued second level certification in Emotional Intelligence (EQ). This will be the fifth year for the award in Henderson County. It will be given to an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in her/his business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way and has empowered women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.
